Magic and Granola

Saturday I spent the afternoon on the west coast of Jersey along the Delaware River. I had never taken Rte. 29 any farther north than Stockton previously. I made my way up to Milford and over to Riegelsville, PA. I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with the area. Not only do I fancy Revolutionary War era housing, but was duly impressed by the area's citizens. They were friendly without pretense. They smiled. They said hello. They stopped to talk at length about nothing. I'm not used to that sort of behavior. In my neck of the woods, saying hello will illicit supreme aloofness and arrogance or be interpreted as an invitation for violence.

The Riegelsville suspension bridge is by far the coolest bridge that crosses the Delaware. This is not my photo and I would like to credit the Bridge Meister for this stolen image. The Bridge Meister. Those shots are OK in a Kodak Disc sort of way. I was very happy driving across this bridge. I think the most interesting aspect of this is how low the suspension wires and towers are. Driving over the bridge made me feel like a giant.

I will have to return to take photos.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em, Marty

The quintessential tale of squelched inspiration, stolen dreams, ugly people, immaturity, dance halls and attention leaches. I forgot to add the movie Marty to my list of favorite movies. After a long day of shooting today and then subsequently ruining the film because of a dumb mistake in the darkroom, I settled down to Channel 13 for a favorite old flick called Marty. I was inspired. I was inspired because I have a reader. Thank you reader. Thanks for the comment.

"That Mickey Spillane can sure write"

Everybody needs to find a few 'tomatas'.

It is incredible how more often than not my sails billow as though in a vacuum after someone close poo-poos an idea about which I am enthusiastic. How is it that I can feel so strongly about something I'd like to do but roll up like a pill-bug at the first nay sayer's campaign on leveling. The closest to me are usually the greatest obstacles. Isn't that always the way...

Do yourself a favor and watch Marty when you get a chance. It's an old movie with Ernest Borgnine. He's ugly and fat and painfully honest. He, like myself, came equipped with chameleon demeanor and is greatly affected by those around him. It's a bittersweet movie about one who triumphs against all odds. No, it's not like Chariots of Fire. It's like Moonstruck, minus the humor.

Oh, and now that I know that it is possible to upload images to this blog thing, I will start doing so. I'm an Internet dolt when it comes to this sort of stuff. Should any of my shots from today be viewable, I'll certainly post one or two. I think my 6x12 stuff should come out okay.

Does anyone read these things?

Not that I'm aspiring to be a great bloggist, but was simply curious about whether anyone read my blog. I know that my responsibilities should only lie with my affinity for writing, but I reckon if anyone actually reads and enjoys what I write, I'll be more diligent about posting.

So if you would do me a favor, please leave a comment on this posting so I know you're out there waiting for my pearls of wisdom. You can even tell me to stop writing. That is fine. I just wanted to know if you existed.

Thanks.
